neo-, meta-

neo- means new, and meta- means change, beyond, or spread (Greek).

"NEE-oh / MET-uh." Coach: "Neo means new. Meta often means change or beyond; in cancer dialogue, metastasis means spread to another site."

-oma means mass, swelling, or tumor. A hematoma is collected blood. An adenoma is usually a benign glandular tumor. A carcinoma is malignant. The rest of the word and the case determine which.
